How to Track Your Migraine Trigger

An essential component of any migraine treatment plan is to figure out your triggers. There are so many things that can trigger a migraine, and it’s tricky to keep track of all of them. Err on the side of caution, and keep track of more things than you think you need to. Bring a notebook with you everywhere you go for a few weeks so you can stay on top of your notes.

Divide a notebook page into columns. Add dates descending in the first column. Then, label the remaining columns with these headings: Sleep, exercise, medications, vitamins and supplements, weather, and migraine symptoms. Your doctor may also recommend that you track your menstrual cycle if you’re a woman. Use a separate notebook page to keep track of what you eat and drink, and when you eat.
